I have captured this picture of mother 'Red-Knobed Coot' and its Chick at Marievale Bird Sanctuary, early in the morning. You could see the Sunrise colours on water surface. It's not a difficult task to capture a well detailed picture of Coot, but when such small Chick with her, here you need to focus perfectly both on them, otherwise picture will comes out worthless to me.

Egg-laying season is July to November and it lays 2-6 eggs generally. About 18-25 days Chicks come out and leave the nest within a day of hatching.

Hello Srikumar,
Fabulous shot of both mother and chick. I remember the first time I saw this particular species of coot chicks here on TN. I couldn't believe how colorful their plumage was compared to the adults. A top quality photo all around and a real eye pleaser!!
