The title is a copy of a book by the same name by Orhan Pamuk, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2006. The book was published in Turkey in 1998 and has already sold over 160,000 copies.

This gorgeous dragonfly visited my garden only once and I did get a chance to shoot a few pictures. It was a rainy day, cloudy, dark with obvious difficult lighting conditions. Also it was sitting at a distance. Still the glare of its brilliant red abdomen was being hard to control. After I stuggled to take a few good ones it flew away with amazing speed never to return till this day. This was one time I really wished I had better equipment to have a better shot.

While I saw the result on my computer I was disheartened to find the outcome and was not very happy with the results. Since then I have waited each day with hope to see it again and take a better shot but lady luck has not shined till day. Hence I thought of posting this as it is. Maybe someday I will see it again and can post a better one. Hope everyone likes it.

As usual I am not straining myself to find its proper ID as I know my search will be futile. Somehow I have never managed to ID dragonflies and damselflies. Atleast let us enjoy looking at this beautiful one and hope some learned member will give it its proper name.

Hi

I think the photo is really quite lovely. This is a difficult subject to capture and therefore I think you did a great job!

Hi Sumon,
Splendid capture.
Alive colors and excellent contrast.
I liked it green BG.
Very good POV; shot rich in details.
Well done!
Thanks for sharing!
My best regard,

Hello Sumon,
Very fine capture of this beautiful dragonfly in a nice pose. Very sharp and colourful but I find it a bit too dark. It is most likely a Crocothemis species. There are some quite good sites on Internet about Indian dragonflies.
PS Thanks Haraprasan! I take back my suggestion and notice that the dark colours are also pretty right for this species.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Sumon,
such an attention grabbing shot, the colours really pop out and the detail is excellent, as always. You made the most of yor opportunity here, very well done.
Paul

Hi Sumon,
a nice shot with good details and sharpness.
The composition is good and the POV as well.
The head and body is a bit dark and I think the red body is
a wee bit to saturated but I could be wrong since I never
had seen this dragonfly in real life.
Well done.

Hello Sumon,
... your pictures is beautifully composed. This is due to the nice point of view, the minimalistic design and the striking colours. Furthermore, focus is just on the important parts which are shown with excellent sharpness.
Best wishes, Peter

wow! And second red for me this week, but much difference in the way it is seen from your perspective. Almost neon glow in its colors. Red and black go well together is done just right as this.

Bob

You have named this one correctly. I've never seen one so red. Excellent clarity, colors, and background. Well done.

TFS!
Reid

This is a superb pic. I just love the DOF here. The placement of the subject, colors and the sharpness is amazing, the OOF BG gives a punch to this picture

Hi Sumon. You have done fine with the camera you have. grat detail and rich colours. sharp focusing. you have made good use of the poor light you had. well done TFS. good notes too.
Nick..
Have a good weekend.

Hello Sumon
This is indeed a fine capture...I am slightly intrigued by the level of post processing that you may have done..to me, the head, wings , tail are all pin sharp.. but the thorax doesnt seem to be in perspective sharpness wise. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

Hola Sr. Sumon. Exelente imagen lograda aqui. Finos colores y gran contraste. Luis52.

Hi Sumon,
Great detail on the head and thorax.
Good DOF for the wings too.
I see the sensors have a bit of trouble with the definition around the intensly red areas.
It almost looks a bit overexposed or oversaturated but I know that its not.
Thats just a common problem associated with that particular colour that most cameras have.
I get it with red mushrooms too.
Beautiful shot though.
First class!

Hello Sumon,
Thisis quite an eye-catcher, in images as well as in nature I will think!
Great details and fine diagonals in composition, I notice the great colour contrast as the green background makes the red body even more shining!

Hi Sumon,
a striking shot of this stunning dragonfly.
Amazing vivid red highlighted by the bright green BG.
Well done,
Joe

Hi Sumon Da,
It is a Scarlet Marsh Hawk (Male) Aethriamanta brevipennis. By the way it is a excellent capture. As per my experience it is a very difficult to capture species. I have also tried some shall post someday later. The details are good and the composition..... Um it is good but not a typical Sumon Da's shot. Any way nice capture. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Sumon,
Excellent POV and dynamic color against the green BG. Very well composed.

Hi Sumon,
I find ID dragonfly is almost impossible too. This is a well composed picture. Lovely saturated colors. The image is sharp and well set against blurred green background. TFS.
