|This is how birding looks like in lowland tropical rainforests in Vietnam. This quiet shy male Bar-bellied Pitta(Pitta elliotii), is one of the most sought after species of Cát Tiên National Park among with many other difficult species. We saw this individual very briefly in one of the trails inside the park but this fantastic plumage easily captured my heart so i decided to give this beauty more chance. I left my fellow birder friends and tried to track him for a while and realised that he follows a round track regularly. Pittas always stay on ground and refuse to fly. But the problem was the thick vegetation cover of the jungle which also brings problems for photography in low light conditions. When i found a relatively better clearing where i had 5-6 meters sight distance without many plants, i stopped there. I made a hide with branches and dried leafs where i thought that he will pass again. Well, waiting for 4 hours in the humid air with mosquitos and some insects was quiet funny but the best part was i really didn't move, even i was careful with blinking. However, the birds are really clever especially pittas, he noticed me anyway. He passed from his trail for 3 times in 4 hours. Usually from 10 to 15 meters just behind those small trunks. That was out of my camera's clear sight. However, i enjoy this one, shows really how you usually see them even with some patience:) Birding in Vietnam, especially in national parks is just perfect, already get around 100 lifers |
Today is resting day and we now study the incoming birding days. Greetings from a lovely city, Đà Lạt.
