Hi Sky, in the contest between your husband's fishing and your photography, (in my totally biased opinion), I would have to say that you won. In fact I'd gladly trade just about any number of fish for that one shot you got of that flying Manta. You can catch fish anytime, but you're not likely to see a shot like that one again for a long while.

I like the composition in this one, a lot. The angled approach you have on the bird against the water and mountains is good, but I also like the layered effect seen here between the sea, mountains and sky. It's subtle, which is probably why it works so well. Colour is good throughout, but its the transition of colour that I like.

Hello Sky,
This bird looks both powerful and mysterious but seems to rule its domain. The three layer composition of sea, land and sky gives the image depth as this large bird (seeks its prey in a fine composition.
I think this is an immature Frigatebird of some species, Lesser or Greater.

I would agree with you anytime of day, catching bait with the camera far outweighs catching fish especially if you spend the whole day catching only 1 fish. At least you had a couple of 100 photos to show for the day. It's a question of balance.

This peaceful shot anyway speaks a thousand words. Long after your husband's remembrance of the 1 fish caught has faded you can still rekindle the pleasure of this spectacular moment. You had the ocean, the mountain, the sky, and the moment filled it with this fabulous bird. Shear delight for you and a pleasure for us to behold.

Surely, there won't be many photos that will top that magnificent flying manta, but this too is a very nice shot.
I like the rather unconventional composition here and the beautiful BG you managed to get.
The sharpness on the bird and its prey is very good and the exposure is great.
