The picture shows the common caddis fly (Trichoptera)
- Halesus tesselatus
- family: Limnephilidae


Species information
With a body length of about 15 mm and a wingspan up to 50 mm, H. tesselatus belongs to the larger European species of the order Trichoptera.
The species is rather common and the adult is found in September and October.
There are 2 similar species, radiatus and digitatus, which are difficult to distinguish from tesselatus.

Hello Peter,

You have made a fine close-up of this insect. Image is very sharp showing good details of insect's body. Texture of the stone beneath the insect is also well shown.

Hi Peter,
Outstanding shot of this Caddisfly with immaculate sharpness and great details. The details on its wings are amazing and the blue sky as BG looks fantastic. The white coloured rock looks great too. Excellent DOF, POV and composition.

What I like the most in your insect gallery is that the diversity of species from different (often not very popular) groups is so high! And looking to your gallery right now I was sure that I will find something like this photo!

Hallo Peter,
Sehr schönes und klares Bild dieser Köcherfliege. Eigentlch sind diese Trichopteras ,in der Vergrösserung gesehen, recht elegant. Dazu kommt in Deinem Bild noch eine geschickte Komposition,mit der Caddis fly auf der Grenze zwischen zwei Farbereichen.
Witziger Titel! Unser Horizont war in letzter Zeit auch öfters von diesen Kreaturen besetzt..
