Autumn again. Most creatures die to be reborn in few months. Darkness will come and then light again. And again. And again. World and time is like ancient serpent Ouroboros swallowing its own tail.

The Ouroboros (Greek Ουροβόρος, from ουροβόρος όφις "tail-devouring snake", also spelled Ourorboros, Oroborus, Uroboros or Uroborus, in English pronounced /ʊˈrɒbɔrɔs/ or /ˌjʊəroʊˈbɒrəs/), is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon swallowing its own tail and forming a circle.

The Ouroboros often represents self-reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself, the eternal return, and other things perceived as cycles that begin anew as soon as they end (See Phoenix (mythology)). It can also represent the idea of primordial unity related to something existing in or persisting from the beginning with such force or qualities it cannot be extinguished. The ouroboros has been important in religious and mythological symbolism, but has also been frequently used in alchemical illustrations, where it symbolizes the circular nature of the alchemist's opus. It is also often associated with Gnosticism, and Hermeticism.

Carl Jung interpreted the Ouroboros as having an archetypical significance to the human psyche. The Jungian psychologist Erich Neumann writes of it as a representation of the pre-ego "dawn state", depicting the undifferentiated infancy experience of both mankind and the individual child.

What a leafy picture this is Grzegzzy!
And what a lovely leafy picture .... it really is ever so super!
I'm guessing it must really be autumn now there....that must mean fungi time!
I hope you're going to find lots of spectacular fungi to photograph.

Do you realise that today it is exactly 4 years since you critiqued my very first photo on TN ?
Such a long time ago,and so much has happened since then.
I've written a thingy about that first day in the forum, and links to some of the photos posted that day.Check it out :)
Cheers
Steve

A sea of leaves... and from the sea... :) I like the lighting and the overall composition... detail fading into the distance is well done. TFS

Hello Greg,
What a beautiful carpet of Beech leaves in wonderful warm colours! Autumn does put one in a philosophical mood!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Greg,
I love the simplicity of the composition and the fact that the entire ground is covered under these Beech leaves. The DOF and the pin sharp details together with the clarity make the photo as if I was actually there. I love the subtle difference in colors between each leave.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Greg

I was starting to get worried...you told us in your last post that you had some health problems that you stopped your activity here totally...But now i'm really happy to see you back and i really hope that all is well with you. my dear friend!

This is a very moody shot and i see very well why you chose such a title and note for it.
I really like the repeating patterns here in the leaves on the ground and all the small highlights and shadows visible through them.
The colors are lovely and the DOF here is really well chosen. Great work!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

PS: i hoe you didn't give up on our little friendly competition...i waited for your return just like you did while i was in Croatia :)

Hi Grzegorz.
Very common and always amazing scene when it is reproduced with such skill and taste. Excellent reproduction of fine state of nature at this season. DOF and details as well as colours and vertical orientation of the image are fine. My compliments and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Greg
Interesting to see how autumn varies across our planet - here in the south of England the beech leaves are only just turning yellow (though we had a frost on Friday so this should make them change).
A simple but very effective image. It brings back childhood memories of playing in the leaves in a beechwood with my father and sister. Also, I don't normally like frames but this one works especially well. The note on the Ouroboros is also very interesting.
Kind Regards
Vinny

Hi Grzegorz

great shot in the vertical. I love the various shades with in the picture and the lower angle. the patch of light at the top just adds that little extra interest to the picture in the area OOF...

For me Autumn bring sunrises and misty mornings that mean I can get out and get my type of shot... the really moody duo tone shots that I love.

Anyhow nicely done

An interesting shot of the autumn. Colour and light is perfect. Well done.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Grzegorz!

What a simple shot showing so much! Perfect presentation of fall, with all colors of leaves but all from one "side" of the palette. TFS!
