You've been smoking too much of that funny stuff(just kidding.) Hey look! I am a frog! I would've swung that camera around the subject and looked for the equal overall amount of balanced light and at the same time a slighty darker background, this way the photographer can avoid harsh lighting scenarios where light is too bright in certain areas and darker tonal value wont lose too much detail either. In your case the dark areas are fine it's just the lighter areas that are over burned wich causes detail loss and can draw the eye in like a magnet just like how the Millenium falcon got pulled in by the tractor beam from the Death Star. Still a better shot than average.
