Hi friends,

If they made a film called "10.000 BC" recently, i can do better: 13.000 BC :))

Last time i showed you a cave entrance, now i'm showing you what's inside one. It's not exactly the same cave, but i don't think you'll mind too much :)

I went to a famous location around here - The Bear's Cave - with a friend visiting from Italy. He's never been inside any cave before, so needless to say he was impressed. I'll show you some more soon...

Until then, here is some interesting info:

from Wikipedia:
Bears Cave dwells an extraordinary range of stalagmite and stalactite formations varying in size and forms, as well as an impressive amount of Cave Bear fossils. - Ursus spelaeus - a species which disappeared more than 15,000 years ago. The cave entrance - which is situated at 482 m altitude - is by the tourist pavilion. Bears Cave is 1 km in length. It is disposed on two-overlapped levels: one which is larger, being 488 m in length and fitted out for tourist reasons, and an interior level, temporarily active, being 521 m in length, which is used for scientific reservation.

Peştera Urşilor means Bears' Cave. The cave was named so, as numerous Cave bears (Ursus spelaeus) were found in this cave. The cave was visited by these large animals more than 15,000 years ago. It is suggested that a rock slide closed the entrance whilst 140 of these animals were still inside; deprived of food, the bears resorted to killing each other until none remained. Bear fossils were found in many parts of the cave, most sporting the marks of bear teeth.

The cave was undisturbed until 17 September 1975 when the cave was discovered during quarry works. The marble and limestone of this area was mined by the inhabitants of the nearby village Chişcău. The first person in the cave was quarry worker Curta Traian from Chişcău.

Hope you like it and thanks for visiting :)

Hi Horia!

Indeed, it's impressive. And I almost can feel the fresh breeze in my neck... Hmm, glad to see you back!

:-)

More seriously: I believe it's a good idea to show the other side of nature. Death is part of all what lives, and your picture reminds us this reality in an impressive way. Moreover, the special light conditions and the colour tones highlight the effect and atmosphere created in your picture. Your notes are very interesting, too.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Horia!
this picture is really something new! I do not remember too many captures of animal bones in TN, especially some paleontological pictures :)
Very good idea and contribution to diversity of topics in this web page :)
Have a nice week!
Greetings,
Radek

hello Horia,
capture really important in the Bear's cave, with an excellent definition and details of the remains of this animal (bear) to 13,000 years ago
thanks for sharing

best sERGIO

Ciao Horia,
spettacolare immagine, splendida composizione che rende molto bene l'atmosfera della caverna con eccellenti definizione dei dettagli di questo scheletro e di questo sito importante dal punto di vista paleontologico, accompagnato dalle tue interessanti note;
eccellente immagine anche dal punto di vista strettamente fotografico.
TFS.

Where else in this world are we so diverse...so widely varied in nationality and religion and philosophy... but we come together to hold each other up in photos which to the millions may seem easy to take..but those people who go out to Wal-Mart or whatever discount in their country and buy a camera..this does not make them a photographer..NOR does getting paid...it must mean something but not sure..I was a paid pro for dozens of years..but times have changed..and now the world opens to us through people with good eyes, good gear and the good mindful thought to post it where it will hit a home run!

Hi Horia,
What can I say? I haven't been in my time machine for quite awhile..Had to take a break from the time travel routine you know ;}

Hi Horia

Very interesting note nice good shot of this cave bear skeleton. I like the humourous touch about the weather conditions.

James

This is great Horia,
It must have been wonderful to see this ancient cave bear.
I used to do a bit of bone digging in caves here, and had quite a few bones of extinct Moa birds.
You've captured this old skeleton very well with good subtle lighting.
A great job.
Cheers
Steve

Salut
Uite, l-am vazut si eu acum vreo 4-5 ani. Ah, tot verde a ramas!
bravos pentru idee...sa prezinti ceva ce a locuit o data pe pamant.
Toate cele bune, Oana

Hello Horia,
Interesting story in your note. It's quite something different. Beautiful photo in a great exposure.

Hi Horia

What a great post. An unfortunate end to this group of bears, it must have been horrible for them trapped in such a situation.
Great comopsition and presentation.

Buna Horia,

Felicitari,
Cristian

This is a fascinating photo and note Horia. It's hard to imagine 140 bears in one cave! What an horrific end for those animals. Nature is so fickle.

Wowwww! That's awesome, Horia!
Are the skeletons just lying there on the ground, or in cases and stuff?
Very good light that's really atmospheric.
Excellent composition.

Very impressive stuff mate!

Cheers,
Joe

p.s look at this guy's portfolio: http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/382022.html... he's nicked my shots, Howard's shots, Necip's shots and Zahoor's shots!!!!!!

TrekOLDnature.*g* excellent capture and interesting post - never heard of that amazing place before - 140 bears in one cave is
really hard to imagine. 3 sec´s exposure - i guess it was quite dark in there - you did great - the lighting and the brown
tones turned out perfect. well done & best wishes, thor.
