Dianthus anticarius

Dianthus is a genus of about 300 species of flowering plants in the family Caryophyllaceae, native mainly to Europe and Asia, with a few species extending south to north Africa, and one species (D. repens) in arctic North America.

Common names include carnation (D. caryophyllus), pink (D. plumarius and related species) and sweet william (D. barbatus).
The name Dianthus is from the Greek words dios ("god") and anthos ("flower"), and was cited by the Greek botanist Theophrastus.
The colour pink may be named after the flower. The origin of the flower name 'pink' is unknown; it has been suggested that it comes from the frilled edge of the flowers, which look as though they were cut with pinking shears, but actually, the shears were patented in 1893 and got their name from the flower.

The species are mostly perennial herbs, a few are annual or biennial, and some are low subshrubs with woody basal stems. The leaves are opposite, simple, mostly linear and often strongly glaucous grey-green to blue-green. The flowers have five petals, typically with a frilled margin, and are (in almost all species) pale to dark pink. One species (D. knappii) has yellow flowers with a purple centre.

Dianthus species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Cabbage Moth, Double-striped Pug, Large Yellow Underwing and The Lychnis Also three species of Coleophora case-bearers feed exclusively on Dianthus: C. dianthi, C. dianthivora and C. musculella (which feeds exclusively on D. suberbus).

Hi Jose,
I like this composition very much! Good POV and DOF with great details and a nice shadow. A little more sun would have been beautiful, but that's no big matter. Well done Jose :)
Claudine

Hi José.
Your composition very beautiful. It shows all beauty of this dianthus. Focus, DOF, POV, BG all of classical close-up photography rules were well done. Conratulations.
Sincere greetings

Hello Jose,
Very nice magenta color and lovely light. The OOF green BG looks great with this. Perhaps a bit more space right, it feels a bit cramped IMHO.
Well done and have a nice weekend!

Rob

Saludos.

you have some really beautiful wild flowers where you live. Such colours and diversity. I really lik ethe way you have offset the flower in this picture and included a bud as well, but think you may have needed a slightly greater DOF just to pull all of that petal into foucs.

Bonjour Jose

Saludos Jose.

Jose,
Have added this one to my FAVS. My favorite colour.
SUCH CLARITY. Congratulations.
A joy to see a bud, about to give life too, by the one already blooming.
You may not know this: YOU ARE AN ARTIST.
Best regards,
M.

Hi Jose,
Beautiful composition. I like this a bit blurry but sharp enough to see yellow pollen all over the flower. This is another lovely flower picture from you.
JC

Hello Jose,
A delicate flower capture!
What I like in particular is the inclusion of the bud...
Attractive colours in the petals, and the subject is captured with good details in this well composed dimage!
Greetings,
Pablo -
