Quelle belle prise. Il semble bien protecteur de son butin. Toujours impressionnant ces rapaces. Belles couleurs et belle composition. Les couleurs du BG s'harmonise bien avec le plumage de l'oiseau.

this is an excellent shot of the merlin.So far me I have only caught them it trees but sooner or later I'll get an action shot as well detailed and focused as yours.Alberta sure has the greatest number and variety of raptors that I know of anywhere else in Canada and maybe the world.Tfs. Bob

wow...and it looks totally like an American Kestrel as well. Your pic is that good that I can tell. I have had these sit on my railing at my wilderness cabin and me without a camera. It's ok though. I would rather see them and know them sometimes...Great picture.

Interesting that they were described as usually silent, from my experience on the breeding grounds they are noisy little buggers. Great image. Nice pose, and the somewhat gruesome prey item, reminds us that this is a predator, not a songbird. You might consider cropping off some of the headroom, by as much as a third. Nice shot!

Lucky you, I have never been close enough to a Merlin to get photographs like that and with prey as well.
Good sharp picture, good colouring, definition a bit soft but all in all it is fine.
