"WILD TURKEY".
"Merriam's Wild Turkey" = M.g.merriami
My good U.S. friend, Bob Shannon, asked: "But where do they live?"
Ranges through the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota and Alberta Canada. Also in Manitoba & Ontario Canada. It lives in the mountain forests, open woodlands and swamps throughtout its range.
Their prey are cougar, coyotees, wolves, lynx, foxes, racoons, mink, skunk, eagles, hawks and owls. Their PRINCIPAL PREDATORS are MAN. In Alaska, because of OVER KILL, they are practically non existant. This is why the wild Turkey is always on its guard, often roosting in trees. Their main downfall has been nesting on the floor below trees; and, it has trouble "taking off" needing to run several feet to do so.
Males are far larger than females as you can see in this image.
Their diet is fruit, seeds, roots, tubers, insects, mollusks, crustaceaus and amphibians. Roaming the forest floor, this species picks at plants and looks under fallen leaves for food. Its muscular grit-filled gizzard grinds up food which the turkey swallows whole - just as a common chicken does - they have no teeth to chew their food as we humans do.

I used to drink that stuff:-) The liquor of course I mean, however older age and such a conservative life now leaves me with no liquor and mostly veggies, but this one would not want to be around in November:-)

Hello Mario,
This is a proud and impressive bird!
Great details have been captured in the plumage, and the lovely colours are well reproduced...
This one seems more healthy than the cousins, at least not looking so overfed and ready for the table..!
Greetings,
Pablo -
He's a beauty! Wonderful clear definition and great details. Good vivid red. :)

Hi, dear Mario.
You have presented this wonderful bird very well. Every feather, every colour shades as well as its state of mood are reflected perfectly. Lighting and exposure despite a strong sunlight are very good too. May be shot is too centered and there is small space in front of bird. In any case well done and TFS.
Alexei.
P.S. My last shot and dedication to your charming wife Bernadete too.
Hi Mario
Turkeys, you gave to love them. I hear there are very smart. You captured a beautiful male turkey, I just love the colours of his feathers and his bright red head. Very good notes.
