"BOHEMIAN WAXWING".
TN MEMBERS PLEASE CLICK ON IMAGE TO ENLARGE.
All these images are dedicated to my MOST BELOVED WIFE Bernardete Gomes da Cruz.
I first saw and registered this subject on my way to the Bow River about 2 Km away, just downhill from my home.
A great amount of details of this lovely passerine can be seen HERE.
Its English name refers to the bright red bead-like tips of the secondary feathers on its wings, which look like drops of sealing wax, while 'Bohemian' refers to its (presumed) origin from Bohemia (at the time, a relatively unknown but "distant, eastern" place). It is larger and greyer than the Cedar Waxwing and has bright yellow tips on its tail feathers and a yellow or white stripe along the wing feathers. Under tail coverts are a deep rust color. Both beak and feet are dark and the brown eyes are set in a narrow black mask underlined with white.
I saw it, again, at the Weaselhead Natural Environment Park on the day I saw a WOLF in the far distance within the bush. Shall post the WOLF too at a later date; and, I've not forgotten about the Merganser babies either.... shall post them.... soon.
Here are the rest of them:
About 40 feet away from me; however, note the slight tiny smudge on the left below the bird. Was a tiny bird???
It turned slightly to face me.
It flew away.
Panoramic crop.
A SUPER TIGHT CROP of the same image. |

Because they are beautiful.

Hi, dear Mario.
Very good in-flight picture of the bird. You have frozen its flight perfectly. Exposure parameters (including shutter speed and ISO rating) are great. I also welcome nice horizontal cropping of the image. Note as usual is wonderful and complete.
Alexei.
