Hello Ron,
Here I'm also making an exception to my rule in not giving critique on shots of life in captivity, but this is a great photo of this pair of Whooping Cranes.
The pose of the one while the other is on the nest is excellent and taken from a great POV among the reeds with fine sharpness and lighting.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan
great rare couple, TFS Ori
Hi Bob,
That's a beautiful shot of the two Whooping Cranes at the Calgary Zoo! You managed to get the colours of the birds just right. Good details too. I was also overcome with excitement when I saw them a couple of days ago at the zoo. I could not capture the pair together, unfortunately, because they were standing too far apart. I posted my best shots of one of them yesterday and the day before.
I assume that you know that Bill Lishman and friends are going to lead some Whooping Cranes from Wisconsin to Florida using ultralight airplanes starting on Sept. 4. They've done that in other years also. The project is called Operation Migration. Some years have been more successful than others in this effort. If you're interested, see my first posting for a link to a YouTube video on Operation Migration. Janice (lovenature) found another link that she provided in her critique of my second posting.
Regards,
John
Hi Bob
one of the negative points here on TN is the fact that it is not mandatory to mention if it is a captive or a wild animal, although it would be so easy to introduce this new category.
I do not have a single zoo picture here on TN but I do not mind having a look at them. Of course taken in captivity the picture must be even better composed as you have plenty of time to do so. The square format and the compo are just perfect here, the light, as you say is very harsh, but still there is no oe anyway on the plumage.
The note is very interesting and thanks again for pointing out this is a zoo picture, e.g. I just see so many falcons and other raptors here from falconry not mentioning that these are captive birds.

Thanks for your compliment on my Whoopers - your photo is spectacular! If you didn't mention it was in a zoo, who would have known!! Great work you do by the way!!
