Often I have seen magpies giving other animals a hard time and this photo shows just the very thing I see magpies doing all of the time causing a predator grief and consternation.Magpies are either very brave or are complete fools as they seen to delight in annoying predators like the merlin you see in this photo as well as hawks, owls and eagles not to mention cats, dogs and foxes and even muskrats and finally people;yes it seems magpies just love to be trouble makers.I am rather fond of the irrepressible birds that are magpies as they have so often lead me to some very entertaining photo opportunities and this image was just one such opportunity.

This image was taken only a two minute walk from where I live not far from a nest of merlins, on a small foot bridge that crosses the 2nd street pond,a pond that has provided myself and Art Roberts many photo opts that have been shown here on TrekNature.I like the intense look that the merlin is giving the magpie looking up at it and before long the merlin did attack the magpie. The magpie made good it's escape but just barely.I hope you enjoy this little photo of the standoff between these two fine avian friends or foes as is the case.Have a good weekend and for you Canadian viewers a good thanksgiving day weekend.

Bob

Ciao Bob,
trovo questa foto molto interessante dove mostra una interazione tra due specie molto diverse tra loro. Lo smeriglio (Falco columbarius) è fantastico.
Ciao e grazie.
Angelo
