Varying Hare Lepus americanus

I took this shot back in February along a nature trail. These rabbits blend in well with their surroundings and either freeze hoping you will not notice them or dart away. This chap decided to come check me out.
Well-adapted to its environment, the snowshoe hare travels on large, generously furred hind feet, which allow it to move easily over the snow. In soft snow, the four long toes of each foot are spread widely, increasing the size of these “snowshoes” still more. A seasonal variation in fur colour is another remarkable adaptation: from grey-brown in summer, the fur becomes almost pure white in midwinter. The coat is composed of three layers: the dense, silky slate-grey underfur; longer, buff-tipped hairs; and the long coarser guard hairs. The alteration of the coat colour, brought about by a gradual shedding and replacement of the outer guard hairs twice yearly, is triggered by seasonal changes in day length

Happy Easter to all who celebrate it.

Happy Easter Rob
You zoomed in really nice and close to show off this hares big brown eyes, soft looking fur, not to mention the fur covered radar. A nice portrait of the Easter Bunny, and interesting notes.

Hello Vanni

hello Wolf

excellent close-up photo of Lepus americanus in his winter coat,
fine POV, fine focus sharpness and details of its white hairs,
and a wonderful eye-contact, TFS

Hallo Rob
Now if this is not cute and oh so sweet. This is such a pretty rabbit with lovely features and details and you have outdone yourself with the camerawork, on the overrall white in the image. You have captured the rabbit's sweet and adorable characteristics well. Looking at this creature has touched my heart and reminded me of my childhood. It appears so innocent and naive. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Rob,
He's giving you the eye here Rob. Splendid exposure yielding great details in it's white coat. This rascally rabbit sure has long whiskers. How are you and your girls these days, we haven't talk in such a long time. Thanks for the fine work Rob.

Hi Rob,looking at this photo I'm taken straight away by this animal's eyes, they are so big and innocent looking and are one of the most important features to show well when doing wildlife photos. This capture is beyond reproach and I see nothing about it that could be any better except maybe the showing of the whole body of the hare, still the colour is wonderful and the details as presented are fine and nuanced. It is no wonder why these animals might be hard to spot during winter time here in Canada.A superb capture and thank you Rob for giving us the view.

Hi Wolf,
What fabulous macro.
Great colors and excellent presentation.
And when I think how hard it is to catch it.
