This is the first Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum) that I have seem in the wild, I was very happy. I took this picture in the Grand Canyon, I was very surprised on how tame these birds are.

According to experts on the writing of Vladimir Nabokov, this species almost certainly inspired the waxwing mentioned prominently in his novel Pale Fire.

Waxwings are protected by law in the US and may not be kept in captivity.

Hi Everton,

The Grand Canyon, Puerto Rico - don't you ever stay home? I have never seen a Cedar Waxwing except in pictures and would love to see one. Wonderful shot with the eye shining through the black mask. Nice pose, colors and details. A beautiful Arizona sky in the background and a lovely composition.

Jane

I too have not seen a cedar waxwing in the wild. They always look so sleek and pretty. I like the pose and low point of view. This is well exposed against the sky.
