Short-billed Dowitcher

Hi one and all, today I offer for your viewing pleasure a photo of, I believe, is a Short-billed Dowitcher.I'm about 90% sure of the little shore bird's identity as the next nearest Dowitcher is called the Long-billed Dowitcher and it is not known to breed here in Alberta and is less common at any rate. When in doubt I tend to lean for the more common or abundant name of very similar species.Like all birds of the sandpiper family these birds can be found walking in shallow water along rivers ,lakes and ponds(in this case a local slough). My pov for this shot was roughly about ten feet above the bird looking down at it on a rather pleasant and warm early fall day.I just like seeing all the birds making their way to points south for the winter and this bird caught my eye and I hope that it does yours as well.

Hello Bob,
Yes you are right, this is the Short-billed Dowitcher. The white rump patch extends father up the back than on other shorebirds.
A photo in beautiful natural light and excellent sharp detailed. The deep blue of the water is also very beautiful. Good POV, composition and reflection.
Regards,
Peter
