This is an another photo of the butterfly that I uploaded before. It is a Green-veined White.

Many thanks to Goutham for id info

The Green-veined White Pieris napi is a butterfly of the Pieridae family.

Appearance, behaviour and distribution

Widespread acrossEurope, Asia including the Indian subcontinent and North America, it is found in Meadows, hedgrows and woodland glades but not as often in gardens and parks like it's close relatives the Large and Small Whites with whome it is often mistaken for. Like other "white" butterflies, the sexes differ. The female has two spots on each forewing, the male only one. The veins on wings of the female are usually more heavily marked. The underside hindwings are pale yellow with the veins highlighted by black scales giving a greenish tint, hence Green-veined White! Unlike these two butterflies it rarely chooses garden cabbages to lay its eggs on, prefering wild crucifers.

Life cycle and foodplants

The eggs are laid singularly on a wide range of foodplants including Hedge Mustard Sisybrium officinale Garlic Mustard Alliaria petiolata, Cuckooflower Cardamine pratense, Water-cress Rorippa nastutium-aquaticum, Charlock Sinapis arvensis,Large bitter-cress Cardamine amara, wild cabbage Brassica oleracea and wild Radish Raphanus raphanistrum and so it is rarely a pest in gardens. The caterpillar is green and well camouflaged. It is often found feeding on the same plant as the Orange Tip but never competes for food because it only feeds on the leaves whereas the Orange Tip caterpillar feeds on the flowers and developing seed pods. Like other Pieris sp. it overwinters as a pupae It can produce up to three broods in a year.

Recent research has shown that when males mate with a female, they inject methyl salicylate along with their sperm. The smell of this compound repels other males, thus ensuring the first male's paternity of the eggs - a form of chemical mate guarding.

The adult male of this species has a distinctive lemon smell.

Nice photo, Ersin. I like the photo you have captured some nice detail. The butterfly is just hard to see around the head. It is not your photo but the butterflys light and soft appearence, So good job working with a hard subject.

Matt.

Hello Ersin!
Wonderful close up.I liked POV,using of backlight,details,framing and composition a lot.TFS...:-)

Hello Ersin,

Superb picture of that pieridae! The bg cannot be more perfect with all those greens... The flower has the same colors than the butterfly (green and white) which seems to form one whole entity!!! pov and dof are also excellent! TFS,

Michel

Wonderful photo, Ersin. This is an interesting looking species. It looks like it can camouflage pretty well in the wild. Nicely composed.

Cheers,
Bennett

Super image, Ersin.
Goutham Ramesh, delightfully, is fast turning into an erudite identifier of butterflies.
The shot is well composed with great DOF and natural colours.

Hi Ersin,
pretty, well composed capture of Pieris napi, with good details and delightfully shown transparency of wings.
That butterfly is quite difficult to take in the bright sunshine, as the whites tend to get overexposed, but you managed it quite well here. Maybe a slight reduction in brightness all over could be tried to improve some "burned" spots on the white flowers.
Pleasant contribution with well chosen, well informing notes.
Thank you! Best regards,
Peter

Hello Ersin,
You probably know that I would write that this is a very good picture with lovely colours. I would also say that I like the POV and the details are really good. What nit's I would find? Well you probably realize that I would surely said that the flower is a little overexposed and that it would be nice to have tips of wings in focus. Apart from that I would probably suggest cutting the picture from the left a little to get rid of that a little distracting flower. I would surely end my critique writing something like "overall, this is a very good shot" and maybe "very well done" on the end.

But since I'm sure you already knew what I would write, I won't write a critique to that picture ;-)
Hope you don't mind :-)
