This is my first shot of a bird on TN.

This picture is made in a grove which is on outskirts of my native city of Odessa.
I together with my family walked on footpaths of this grove and not far have seen this turtle-dove pecked grains on the ground. At our approach it has flied up and sat down on a branch of the nearest tree. It was so kind, that has admitted me close enough. In this picture the moment, when it watchfully watches for my not clear actions for it, is embodied. If this turtle-dove knew, that it will get on TN gallery, probably, it would be more appeasable photo model. And so I have remained with few its pictures and pleasant impressions of our meeting.

Collared dove
Streptopelia decaocto

Physical Description
These are small doves of about 28 cm with pale pinkish or grey-brown feathers. They have a black half-collar, black primary feathers and a long, white-edged tail.

Collared doves range across Europe (but have only recently reached Spain and Portugal) and are found in India, Sri Lanka and Burma.

They inhabit towns, villages and farmland.

Collared doves mainly feed on seeds but they will also take berries and other plant material.

Males make showy display flights, rising up into the air, clapping their wings, and then gliding down with their wings and tail spread out.

Collared doves usually nest in trees, but will sometimes nest on buildings. The two eggs are incubated by both adults for about two weeks, and the chicks fledge after three weeks. The chicks are largely fed on crop milk for the first part of this period.

Conservation status
Collared doves are not considered to be globally threatened. Originally an inhabitant of Asia, this dove has spread over much of Europe since the 1890s. They reached Britain in 1953 and there are now over 200,000 pairs.

The call is a monotonous coo-COO-cUK.

Privet Alexei,
Very nice capture of curious dove.I liked clear details, eye contact and lighting a lot.Branches at right side of BG is a little distracting and would be better if you cloned them.Overall great work.I prepared a workshop hope you dont mind.

Hello Alexei,
Your first bird here is very good. I like the details on feathers and composition. Nice and lovely picture.

Hi Alexei,

Wonderful capture of this dove. Very sharp and great lighting.

Hi Alexei,

Nice portrait you did here. Lightning is good as well. The only thing i regret for a bird picture is that the tail is hidden. The tail is something essential for a bird describing.

very nice one Alexei,
the eye contact is in the shot a very important thing and detail, the composition is nice and the point of view is good, well seen.

Hi Alexei,
Congratulations on your first bird shot, I look forward to seeing more. A great shot of this Dove, excellent light and a great exposure, I think it is quite tricky because of the light on the Dove's head. Fantastic detail and great colours, very natural. Great DOF too and nice light in the background, well framed. I think this is better than the workshop image, the out of focus tree on the left provides a natural border, rather than looking cut-off. Excellent work.

hi Alexei.. very beautiful shot really.. so clear...
I will be in Ukraine for bird photography in two weeks...

I hope I will be able to take some interesting photos...

What a BEAUTIFUL dove.
I love birds.
Three colours surrounding the pupil of its eye.
Remarkable detail. On the top is a tiny white dot. Looks like the reflection of the ??? sun?
Amazing detail.
Excellent camera or its user??? Both.!!!
Very clear photo. No distractions.
Best regards,

Hello Alexei,
Technically outstanding image.
I like the natural light displaying the dove's details and colours so well...
In addition there is the greenish background which has a lot of vibrance.
Well done!
