Hi Adrian,

I'm lost for words on this one my friend. The detail in this beautiful close up study is amazing. I love the intense gaze and the excellent, natural colours. DoF, PoV and exposure are all spot on. Overall a wonderful post and I agree 100% with what you say in the notes.

Stunning portrait !

I wish to ones who believe that consuming various parts of a Tiger will impart the Tiger's strength, to test these statements and found a catkin like this in front of them, after they've been cured with tiger's extracts !!

This is a nice shot, presumably taken at a Zoo.
But I do agree with you, I don't understand the lack of respect in human beings for the wildlife on this earth. Without it we'll be lost!! But talking of tigers in particular, it is tragic and the same applies to the beautiful Snow Leaopard of the Himalayas! I think this is something that ought to be brought up more amongst us who enjoy nature and wildlife!!

In this case it doesn't really matter where you took this fine shot. Zoos may in the end be the final chance for the tiger. Let's hope that will not be the case!

you have a lovely shot there to compliment your notes. A maximium of 6000 tigers left in the wild is stunning. Its amazing that it is so bad and so few people can do anything about it.

Hi Adrian,
Comment properly this portrait is equivalent to enumerate factos that must be consider to take a success shot. Not being the case, I just say that light, sharpess and texture of skin are like seeing the animal personally.
Reading the threats to this big animals is something that always conduces me to difficult questions about humans beings. I find a dramatic and excellent idea to enumerate population of tiger species. Perhaps a double column table with population of homo sapiens would give a clue.

He is definetely a beautiful tiger. Unfortunately the situation doesn't look good for this and similar species.
Governments should have a clear policy to prevent extinction. I think TrekNature's contribution here can be the underscoring of beauty and uniqueness of the tiger, the snow leopard,...and why not vent frustration...

This is a wonderful portrait of this fragile animal. The details are amazing as well as his expression. He seems like looking in the future and I hope he sees... hope for him and his congeners... Your reflection about endangered species and poaching ravages are important. I think that this is also a part of TN’s mandate to make people realized the fragility of nature and those terrible human acts consequences. The list of the remaining tigers is unbelievably sad… TFS,

Your trip to the zoo has been really productive. Each one posted so far is just amazing. The details in this photo are really stunning and so are the DOF and colors. Must be of the excellent prime lens. I really like the note with this photo. Not just some information about the habitat, but about the danger of us people for the tiger. I think TN is the right place to address your frustration about these people. I can only second your frustration.

I guess like many people, the tiger is my favorite big cat. Our local high school is nicknamed the tigers, so everything in our town is orange & black and tiger related. I love this portrait. Superb quality light. The colors and detail are just perfect. I really like the composition and tight crop for this. You can get up on your soapbox here because I think most people on this site believe as strongly as you do. I am with you all the way on that!! Awesome shot my friend

A superb image and superb message. There are so many causes that need attention one can start to feel overwhelmed. The bottom line is population...human population. On the cover of the 2005/2006 Really Right Stuff catalog there's a shot of a lion's head pretty much similar to your picture here. The crop is about the same in both shots. The difference is that yours was taken at equivalent of 450mm (I'm guessing) and theirs at 1000mm. Which I would say is quite impressive. And now I'll try not to be boring so I won't repeat what was already said about this shot. Excelent work, Adrian. Congratulations,

I have tried to touch a wool of a tiger and nearly have not spoiled the screen of the monitor. Effect of presence of this animal in my room is shaking. Quality of the image is outstanding as always. I also like the background very much. A degree of its blurriness, a combination of light grey and green colours are very pleasant for an eye and create a beautiful background for this majestic animal. Excellent portrait. My compliments,

Great portrait. The detail is wonderful, especially for those of us who have never had the opportunity to observe them this close up (zoo or not). And yes, it is sad, frustrating, infuriating to know that they are being destroyed for such reasons.

I wonder if some smarter being will ever say the same of humans.

Lovely portrait. The question you ask is very valid. The answer i say is grim.Infact the latest census puts the the tigers in India at 1700 which most people say is high. Hope for the best.
