First off the BG is wonderful Tom!
Excellent catchlight in the eye!
Nice pattern and colors.
Perfect depth of field and positioning!

Elton

Hi Tom,
Ouf, what a catch! Those birds are real hunters, no doubt about it... You caught great details with good POV. Only two things: I think this crop is a little tight in the upper part and maybe you could have tilt the picture a bit to your left to have a symmetric frame in the under part... Anyway, this is a great picture and I don't know if they eat entrails or not... Maybe they keep it for dessert? :-) TFS,
Claudine

Tom,
great capture
sharp
a bit tight in framing though
decisive moment is plus (the look, the prey,...)

Gorgeous bird looks like our sparrowhawk, so beautifully marked, did you try other exposures on this?

Hi Tom
Great capture of the haw and you.
Congratulations, TFS
Jorge

Wonderful capture. perfect DOF. Brilliant colors. Interesting moment. Not even a small nit.

Wowowow, ottima foto, Tom!
Bello scatto del rapace con la preda, ottimi dettagli, bravo!

Ciao e grazie.

Nice shot of a Cooper's Hawk, adult male (very closely related to the Eurasian Sparrowhawk, mentioned above).

Since this was taken in California, I will have to go with Cooper's Hawk. Was the blackbird a Brewer's or Red-winged?

Looks like he has separated out the entrails on the fence, but in my experience, they will eat them if they are extremely hungry. This male doesn't appear to be starving, so he may very well have discarded the entrails entirely. (See the bulge in his breast? That's his crop; seems already FULL! Wonder what else he's been eating?)

Amazing capture of this hawk. I keep hoping one will land near me but never has. If one does I hope I can do even half the excellent job you did.

Hi Tom,
Fabulous shot of this raptor, that I thinks is a Cooper's Hawk. Everything is right about this shot.
The birds caught and eaten by our European hawks are often cleaned up, entrails and all!
But that might be due to other predators after the hawk has eaten the best bits.
TFS, regards, Ivan

Hi Tom

Wow... excellent clear sharp details. Nice catchlight in the eye. I would allow a bit more space above the head. :-)

Best wishes,

Nice foto of a coopers hawk I like natural shots These birds are good hunters I have seen about 6 kills Never got a foto of one yet with its kill The photo is very sharp and good compo I think they prefer the meat off the bird they can rip it off in small peicies the entrails would be like a elastic band

Hi Tom,

Well captured action shot, very well presented with good framing. TFS:-)

Fara

Hello Tom,
Fantastic photo of this Cooper's Hawk. The details on the wings are very sharp. The frame is a bit tight, but the light is beautiful.

Peter

Hi Tom. Very good sharp photo of this predator with its prey. Amazingly clear focussed shot. The colours of the hawk's claw is remarkable. Good work. Murray.

Hi Tom!
A very beautiful capture of this proud bird! Perfect shallow dof, which doesn't distract us with bg details.
Thanks,
Anton

Hi,

Yes this is the reward of the hunter, the picturehunter. Well shot. TFS.

Christian

This is the best photo of a Cooper's hawk that I have ever seen. Certainly a favourite. Cropping above the head seems a little severe, especially if you intend to frame the pic later. What's that brown curled thing at the right side?

Superb pose and very sharp and clear. Seems to have a blue color cast, however. Despite the wide-open lens, very good DOF.

Hello Tom,
Only one word for your picture PERFECTION. Details, colors, action ...all perfect. TFS
Donald

wow,
this is an amazing capture, a little bit to tight crop, but still amazing.
thamks for your comment about my viper,

Lucian.

Hi Tom,

You are a lucky feller??? Such a bird like this one in your backyard. No idee about eating entrails. Maybe poisonous or it has no taste (-: Thats a perfect capture of that hawk. The colours in the eyes, on the udder and the patern on the feathers, magnificent. Regards and TFS Bob
