These days it's raining in the south of Spain, what is not very common here, so I recovered this beautiful butterfly. It was flying actively in a very inclined and full of buses mountain, so I shot it from 2 m or more at full zoom. Results are not good (1), but I like the butterfly and I'd like to know if its name.

This is a Melanargia ines (2), very common in Andalusia. It flies from April to June in meadows and bush montains until 2000 m. (3)

The flower where the butterfly is posed is a Crupina vulgaris, a common species of dry lawns and shrublands. (4)

Hi Jose,
Sorry I am not sure on the ID, but it is a beauty. Under the conditions you had to shoot this in, it turned out very well.
The colors are beautiful. Detail is pretty good for the long lens.
Scott

hi jose,

the tough conditions can be the reason for a bit of noise,

Hola Jose,
the species shown is
- Melanargia ines
- Spanish Marbled White
which occurs in Spain and northern Africa.
The composition is fine but sharpness is a bit soft.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello José, this photo taken is right and ID for this butterly i think is Mélanargia Ignès,present south Europe mainly in andalusia, but i'm not completly sure, because details are not easy!Best regards José, Dany
Ps I hve look this on www.leps.it/indexjs.htm?SpeciesPages/MelanInes.htm

Hi Jose

This is another beautiful butterfly from you!
I know what you mean about nowadays weather...i also must resort to my archive these day :(
I really like the beautiful blue flower that the butterfly stands here, but u think that both it and the b-fly deserves a bit more attention...so i made a workshop...hope that's ok with you.
The POV is nice, the DOF is excellent - blurring the BG beautifully but keeping the subject in good focus and the colors are nice.
The exposure is i'm affraid a little under, but the composition is great.

Bravo and TFS
horia

JM

Hi Jose,
Wonderful shot considering the conditions. I like the position of the butterfly with the subdued sunrays falling on the half-opened wings, making it look translucent. Wonderful DOF and POV. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Jose,
I think you did very well under the conditions you describe. Had it been sharp it would have been a really great shot. I like the light coming through the wings. The composition is very nice.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Ricardo

Hi Jose,
a nice picture with nice colours and good composition.
It's a bit soft and dull but still a nice picture.
Nice colours and good DOF.
Well done.

Hello Jose,
What a fine picture of a Mariposa (is that right word in Spanish?) you have taken out from your archive!
This two-colours butterfly has lovely patterns on both sides of its wings which you have captured very well from your point of view.
I also like the play of light and shade on the wings.
The overall composition has your very special artistic stamp on it.
Best regards,
Ram

Hi Jose.
I like your colourful picture so much. Very nice impressive scenery and perfect composition. Butterfly and flower are composed very well. Lighting is very expressive too. Some hardly noticeable softness of the image is not a point at all. My best wishes and TFS.

Hola Jose,
Though this is a bit soft the composition is good and taken against the light makes this a beautiful shot of M. ines with a good neutral Bg.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Jose

I can see why you wanted to shoot this beautiful butterfly. Lovely light through the wings and a nice composition. Still a nice shot despite the difficulties you described. I'm astounded by Horia's workshop..he can improve all of my photos if he wants :)

Hello Jose,
It is not the sharpest picture that you have in your gallery but I like this specie and I think it is really beautiful. I like the way you captured it in this beautiful pose and environment. I think that Horia's WS gave good result. Well seen! Thanks,
Claudine

Hola Jose.

Hi Jose ,
great image.
excellent composition and nice sharpness.
well captured.
thanks and regards

Hello José,
beautifully composed butterfly portrait of that well featured Spanish Melanargia takes elements of its meadow habitat well into balance. Beautiful gentle light. A slight increase in contrast and some postwork sharpening might further improve the impact without affecting the atmospheric qualities of the image. I think Horia's workshop did a good job.
Thank you, and best regards,
Peter

Hola Jose !
I have a picture of the same butterfly on the same flower, it's almost exactly the same ! I will try to post it some day. Anyway, it is an excellent picture, I love the POV showing both top and under side of the wings, and the light on the butterfly is very beautiful. Well done !
Valerie.

Magníficos detalles en la mariposa. Buena luz y estupendos colores.

Jose, my friend,
looks like a RICE PAPER butterfly.
It is so BEAUTIFUL.
You did a GREAT focusing job.
Our winter will soon be over; and our butterflies will
also come out to play.
Because of the constant bombardment of the "Chinook" winds the squirrels are out. Shall post one tomorrow.
Best regards, Mario.

Hello Jose,
Nice close up and well composed picture. Agree that Horia did a great workshop. Thanks for sharing this fine picture. Regards,
JC
