Don't Write Your Photos Off (32)

Don't Write Your Photos Off is what I have titled today's offering. It is mighty temping to look at one's own photo and delete it and in doing so lose a valuable document of a moment in time but before you ever do that out of hand reconsider doing so, as much can be done to help images along. This is more so for those of you who are new to digital photography. To quote my own words found in my introduction-"The thing is to do what you can with what you have available to you at the time:be it dull or spectacular all records of life on our sweet planet are precious and shouldn't be taken lightly even if the photo is not a gold winner".I really do mean those words and even if you get discouraged, remember even pros take poor or bad photos from time to time,it just goes with the territory and can't be helped.Photography after all is about capturing light in all conditions and times of day and trying to be faithful to the subject and it's surroundings. So what can be done?A photo editor that gives you the basic control factors of sharpening, colour saturation and contrast/brightness can really bring a photo back from the dead.Sometimes a result will be grainy and so another control factor of noise reduction is useful as well, but you do not want to over do it as details will become less fine.Play with your image until you are happy with the results, as how the outcome looks for the most part is a subjective one.The rule of thirds is a good general guide for how the image can be cropped, but it isn't written in stone, remember it is subjective and in the end if your images pleases you,who could ask for more. The good people here on TN are an great help with their critiques and tips as I have learned much in the nearly two years on this site.I dedicate this photo to everyone here on TrekNature and to on lookers as well.

This is a photo of an immature American Bald Eagle taken on an overcast day in Calgary's Fish Creek Park. The white head and tail feathers take four years to appear on the adult birds and in the workshop I have the cropped but otherwise unaltered photo of the same.My point is simple Don't Write Off your photos as you might like how they look after some adjustments.

This is the unmodified pre-PP photo of the bald eagle.I brighten up the image, boosted the colour saturation slightly and applied sharpening for the result you see first. The program used was Paint.Net a free to download windows based software that has many useful features. It is easy to use and is my favorite freebie. This software does most things reasonably well and I'm too cheap to spend money on Photo editors.
